Frequently asked questions.
If something is not here, reply to the message where you got the installer.
Before installing
Which Macs does Brisa need?
macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later. Nothing has to be installed first.
Is it a big download?
Little: the installer is 440 KB and the app, once on disk, 1.1 MB.
Why is it not on the App Store?
It is handed out by hand. Getting into the App Store takes a developer certificate and passing a review; until then, macOS asks you to confirm the first launch.
Permissions and privacy
What does Brisa send over the network?
Nothing, unless you ask. No account, no analytics, no version check. The only exception is “Help improve Brisa”.
Why does it ask for Full Disk Access?
To measure the folders macOS protects: Documents, Desktop, Downloads, Photos, iCloud, Mail and Messages. Without it, Brisa works and tells you what is missing.
Where does it keep what it measures?
In “~/Library/Application Support/Brisa/”: the trash, the history, your exclusions and a sample of the Mac’s status. You can clear it from the app.
What it does to your disk
What exactly does a cleanup delete?
Caches apps rebuild, downloads nobody opened, repeated copies, old installers and whatever was already in the system trash. Never photos, documents or music.
Can I undo a cleanup?
Yes: what was removed goes through Brisa’s Trash with its date. It is restored one item at a time, and you set the window in Settings.
What about uninstalling an app?
Yes, and Brisa warns you first. Only what you mark is removed; what other applications share stays.
How does it choose which duplicate to keep?
It prefers the best quality, the one in the most accessible folder and the most recently used. You can change the pick before applying anything.
Day to day
What does automatic maintenance do?
It runs in the background and does one thing: it empties its Trash once what you removed reaches the window. It tells you how much it freed.
Can I remove Brisa completely?
Yes, in two steps: the “--reset” command removes the maintenance and all local data, and then you delete the app from Applications.
